Hi Michael - I think you idea is unworkable for several reasons: Suppose someone was given a free permit to the CPZ side of the road what's to stop them parking on the other side of the road (the free parking side). No extra parking spaces have been gained (they're now occupied by CPZ people while the CPZ spaces are all empty), and the council has lost revenue by giving away a permit for nothing!! Secondly, Why should some people in a CPZ get a free permit while others do not. Thirdly I'd argue that it becomes manna to heaven for the traffic wardens...There would be so much confusion about which side of the road to park on, that tickets galore would get issued. Whatever people think about the issue of CPZs, surely we can all agree that giving parking wardens a easy ride is something we should avoid!! |
