I didn’t go much on Sam Hearn’s ‘mob rule’ comment either but I don’t think that too much should be made of it; he was spontaneously responding to the audience’s noisey reaction upon learning (or believing) that a large majority ‘vote’ against a CPZ will not necessarily mean that a CPZ won’t be implemented, although it did give me the impression that he’s in favour of a CPZ. But the council can only blame themselves for the position they’re in now. They are proposing a scheme that they’re unable to justify. They’re unable to justify it because they have carried out no research. They don’t know who’s cars are who’s or who’s cars are where, hence the proposed scheme doesn’t meet the needs of the residents and neither will it solve most of the reported problems. And it’s a shame; there are clearly some parking problems for some residents and businesses in the areas concerned; and it is right that efforts should be made to help these people wherever possible. But the council has gone about this all the wrong way in my opinion and all public confidence is now lost. And I too commend all of the councillors that attended this evening's meeting and ‘faced the music'. |
