Dear All, It was interesting to hear everyones viewpoints last night, and to read Sam Hearn's letter from a YES to CPZ Campaigner. My take on all of this is that:- 1/. The Yes Campaigners think that they are going to Pay to have the the ability to park outside their own houses. Clearly someone has lead them to believe that this will be the case when clearly it will not. 2/. The issues are inherrently complex, as they differ road by road and business by business. 3/. That by keeping things complex allows the council to muddy the waters and divide and rule, allowing them to take unaccountable decisions. 4/. Sam Hearne was clearly in favour of a detailed arguement and hinted strongly that it would be listened to. I have to say this seems like a change of heart, and if we had transparency we would have been discussing which councellors will be voting which way. They must know. So I am suspicious about the lack of transparency in all this. They are after all our elected representatives, so we should know what they stand for or democracy fails. I am therefore not convinced that the detailed arguement will win the day, as it can still be simply ignored. 5/. What cannot be ignored is a survey / petition etc that clearly states that house by house, and given all the facts, this is how people want to vote. It is independent of the coucil, it does not involve consultation fees paid for by the tax payer in one form or another, it is newsworthy, and it will make the councillors accountable. If we find on the doorsteps that there are good reasons in certain areas for some change that are not a result of dispacement, then we can take that into account and make recommendations. This process should not be a threat to anyone, and we are quite capable of a balanced view. 6/. So we need volunteers, and there were plenty of hands, to go round the streets, and hand out the survey / petition. This information can be collected on www.careabout.co.uk/Chiswick/cpz.evpx that is residents can go there them selves and be identified by their email address, or they can sign the petition, and the volunteer can add their details to the database. 7/. Plan of action as discussed with Ronan afterwards. All volunteers to contact me by email on nick@e-rm.org with home address, plus any comments on the existing form on the careabout website. We can then circulate this and see who wants to cover each road and the road priorities, get out there collate the information, and publish it. Thereby giving a clear and indisputable message to the Council. For the record the CareAbout site is there to deliver the Survey / petition, not to undermine or replace the existing websites of Andrew or Mark or W4.com, which are performing very valuable but different functions.
