Whilst the point has already been made of a CPZ effectively banning some visitors to areas of Grove Park, I don’t think that enough has been said about this. Even if, for example, Park Rd residents voted in favour of a CPZ (many of whom with off street parking would be unaffected), what right do they have to prevent visitors parking near the entrance gates to Chiswick House Gardens, when they don’t even use most of this part of the road? This part of the road is invaluable to visitors, especially dog walkers. They come and go all day and cause no-one any problems. We mustn’t forget that these are public roads, and whilst I agree that residents’ needs should be met first, I do not agree that they should be given the power to decide who can park in the road, unless they have a considerable parking problem, which, apart from the station area, I’ve seen no evidence of. If a CPZ was to proceed in Park Rd, there would be long, long stretches of empty CPZ parking bays. Think about it – who’s going to park in them? It would simply be another ‘Harvard Rd Job’. This may suit some Park Rd residents but, when considering the community as a whole, this would be a selfish and unnecessary act. |
