| What a farce. The comment from the councillor about mob rule was unacceptable from a public figure supposedly engaged in democratic consultation. The weight of tonight’s meeting was overwhelmingly against the imposition of CPZ but this was deemed to be ‘mob rule’ by one of the people who is legally supposed to have an open mind! Clearly the majority are not always right - but this is not some huge debate about capital punishment - it’s about parking and quality of life for those of us lucky enough to choose to live in this area of Chiswick goodness sake! I have sympathy for people who suffer from pressures on the ability to park - we in Burnaby Gardens/Gordon Road are, in practice, a free car park for tube, overland, Chiswick Park, High Road and Falcons school and Heathrow. BUT it just about works as it is. It will certainly not if any CPZ is imposed on neighbouring areas. The person in the minority who called into question how selfish the majority are in opposing CPZ was in herself selfish. If this ridiculous CPZ (or almost any variation of it) goes ahead those few people who accused the majority of people who voted ‘no’ of being selfish will have successfully passed her problem on to us in the middle as displacement happens.! The eloquent speakers who spoke of their personal experiences of living in areas where CPZs were imposed said it all - it will change the character of our wonderful village for ever - and there will be no going back… Democracy? Let’s see… |
