I was chatting to someone who lives in the area and uses Rivercourt Road on a regular basis. She says that what prompted H&F to act on this was not speeding on the road or cyclist safety at the junction. The main issue was that since the Cycleway was opened it takes much longer for vehicles to clear the road and very occasionally queues were reaching as far back as the A4 which was considered to be very dangerous. The restrictions make much more sense in this context and although we can argue all day about whether they have led to a dramatic or significant reduction, it is self-evident, that if this is the primary purpose of the changes, it has been achieved. The possibility was raised that two way operation could compromise this by causing stand offs at the King Street junction but, while this is happening, the delays are not sufficient to result in queues reaching anywhere near the A4. |
