Being aware of traffic issues doesn't stop residents trying to address the issues and improve their street. As examples in Chiswick, access to the A4 was closed from Harvard Hill, access to the S Circular was closed from Wellesley Rd and Stile Hall Gardens. In these cases the residents most affected supported the measures and their views were prioritised over those who objected because it made some car journeys more inconvenient. There are dozens of other examples in Chiswick over the last 30 years where roads have been closed to stop rat-running. The LBHF website refers to residents raising issues hence the scheme to address them. Additionally, availability of SatNavs has meant that rat-runs like Rivercourt and Weltje may be given as routes to any driver with a SatNav rather than just being known to some people with local knowledge as was the case in the past. I don't know for these streets, but it may be the case that the traffic was increasing because of this. |
