You are probably half right but there is no point in denying the revenue incentive for Hammersmith and Fulham Council. As for a complete closure of Rivercourt at the A4 that would certainly have the benefit of clarity but would the diversion route be able to handle it? While I know in advance that what I say will be dismissed as anecdote with no evidential value, there do seem to have been some changes in traffic management around the Chiswick Lane junction with CHR. I regularly cycle east on CHR with the intention of going up Goldhawk Road and switch to the general traffic lane to avoid the extra long phases in the cycleway. I've been caught twice in the last few days by an exceptionally short phase on the eastbound carriageway. On the two occasions I've travelled up Chiswick Lane, traffic northbound has tailed back passed Homefield Rec. This is not unprecedented but if it is being caused by the Rivercourt Road restriction it is worth keeping an eye on as I think we are still in the warning letter period during which traffic patterns will not have fully adjusted. It would be interesting to hear other observations to get a fuller picture. People shouldn't be browbeaten by those that say this is just anecdote. Reports of increased congestion on CHR and northbound on Burlington Lane have been dismissed on these grounds but now we have statistical evidence that shows this is exactly what is happening. |
