| 'Macro-economic performance is largely driven by Interest Rates, the one thing Gordon Brown has had no involvement in.' So doesn't Brown get credit for deciding not to have a say over interest rates? Of course, most countries are not in full command of their own economies, particularly in today's global marketplace. But national decisions still matter and only the politically blinkered would claim Brown's period was a 'failure' - or that it has been a flawless success. I realise some people are in permanent political propaganda mode, where even hinting at something positive on the other side is seen as a chink of weakness to be scorned - although, from the right, Cameroonian Conversatism claims to have moved beyond that by embracing what it is now seen as positives in their opponents' policies (interest rate independence, higher spending on public services [than in Tory times], minimum wage, tough on the causes of crime, greenery, anti-grammar schools, the muesli eaters' PC equality agenda, etc). |
