| Fully agree David Private oil companies pay significant taxes to the UK state - more so since Brown made the bizarre decision to increase North Sea tax to 50%, but that's another argument. I don't buy this 'wealth in the hands of a few' argument. If you look at the major shareholders of all these companies, the lists consist of pension funds and pooled nominee holdings, both of which represent accumualtions of small amounts of wealth for a very large number of people. This isn't Russia - I don't see any billionaires owning significant chunks of these companies. |
