| "The bogus claims of Weapons of Weapons of Mass Destruction were essentially formulated by Blair and those in his immediate circle such as Alastair Campbell in order to convince Labour and indeed Tory MP's that the War was necessary. I greatly regret that some many otherwise intelligent MP's swallowed those lies. I also regret that that decent man former US General and Secretary of State Colin Powell was fed these British lies and persuaded to use them to justify the invasion." David, do you really believe this?. Because I'd say that you are exploring a region well beyond any known facts. For what it's worth my understanding of the British parliamentary process is that members of the shadow cabinet have access to the same source documents as the actual government. Does anyone know if this is true?. To which it follows that both Blair and whoever was leading the Tory party at the time (forgive me if I don't remember who they were following that month) were fooled, as was Bush. If we could really prove that two of the world's most powerful goverments were fooled by poor intelligence, then we could move on and decide if the intelligence has improved, or if the gov are STILL being misled. Party political sniping is threatening to obscure this rather important point. |
