| It remains to be seen if a Conservative Government would have formulated or believed the false intelligence about Weapons of Mass Destruction that the Blair- Brown Government used to justify Britain's involvement in the War. In fact it remaims to be seen if a Conservative Government would have gone to War at all. The Conservatives, like many Labour MP's, were conned into voting for the War because they believed the Blair lies about Weapons of Mass Destruction. The Conservatives have traditionally had far more influence over US Republican and Democratic Presidents than the Labour Party.This is because US Presidents have always trusted the Conservatives to be not only reliable but wise allies. In contrast, the Labour Party has always been distrusted by US Presidents and administrations because of its socialist, pro-Soviet and pacifist tendencies. Tony Blair was well aware of this and this has undoubtably influenced him into become the unthinking and uncritical poodle of George Bush. Gordon Brown,being uninterested and inexperienced in foregn affairs,the Middle East and Defence matters, was quite happy to go along for the ride, keeping such tight purse strings on our armed forces that ever since they have been under-resoourced and under-equipped and under- manned for a truly massive and probably impossible task of occupying and pacifying Iraq. |
