| Jeremy, you continue to ignore the evidence. We have seen that the majority of injury collisions occur at unsignalled side roads, and is especially pronounced if those side roads that carry more traffic. Junction treatment will reduce the risk per vehicle at side roads, but if the traffic is high, there will still be more accidents at such locations. No hypothesis is required to tell you that transferring that traffic to signalled side roads will reduce the overall number of injuries as we already know the relative risks. Hence the solution is to ensure that all such junctions have mitigating treatments, and those carrying large numbers of vehicles are considered for closure if reasonable alternatives exist. You have yet to provide any numbers to back up your assertion that traffic in Chiswick is at a tipping point. On the contrary, traffic counts are still down, so you have to first speculate that they will increase, and further that this increase will cause a disproportionate effect in congestion. Of course that necessarily implies we are already seeing a significant reduction in congestion that will then be reversed - tipping points work in both directions. |
