| Safety is a concern not just for cyclists but also for the school children of both Latimer & WLFS. Prior to the cycle lane being installed they parked their coaches to transport the children in the bus lane that was immediately outside the schools. Now however they park on Rivercourt Road. Closure of this street would mean that a significant number of children’s safety would be put at risk on a daily basis. There is no possibility of creating a lay-by as this would mean removing the pavement outside the school and felling 3-4 mature trees. Also there is not sufficient space to create a turning circle on the street and asking the coach to reverse across the cycle lane would make it more dangerous than it is at present. So whilst you might prevent the potential injury to a cyclist (5 or 6 over the period of the survey) you would be increasing the danger for 50-100 + children on a daily basis. There is no simple solution to this and TFL needs to have a more studied approach rather than the knee jerk reaction of just closing the road to the A4. |
