| Francis, there is every reason to assume this. Weltje is a bigger risk than Rivercourt as cars turning into a junction is a bigger risk than emerging. There are about 300 vehicles entering Weltje at peak hour. That isn't a significant increase in traffic for alternative routes such as Chiswick Lane or the gyratory which have about 13k and 25k vehicles using them daily. Too much traffic uses Weltje/Rivercourt as narrow residential side streets but the volume of traffic using them isn't significant compared to signallised junctions already carrying orders of magnitude more traffic. If your opinion involving red light jumping cyclists was correct, there would already be significant numbers of collisions at Chiswick Lane or the gyratory but there is no evidence this is the case. 'car brain' sees queues of traffic along streets like Rivercourt and Weltje and assumes 'wow, that is a lot of cars, if it goes somewhere else it will have a big impact'. However there aren't lots of cars using Weltje/Rivercourt compared to Chiswick Lane (A316) or the gyratory which have been designed for higher volumes of traffic in the first place. There are queues because Weltje/Rivercourt aren't suitable for even a small volume of cars. |
