| "very few people object to C9, just the fact that so many cyclists fail to use it and prefer the pedestrian pavements" Wow - OK Loraine. I agree. Where I think you have the most issues is actually at the end of the cycle lane where it meets Heathfield Terrace. There's a lot of cycle parking on the pavement there, so you're going to get more bikes on the pavement in that area. Also, there's the crossing to the park, so you're going to get kids and parents cycling across that to cut through the park rather than being on the road / Quietway or pavement where all the bus stops are. At the end of the cycle lane there's a really long and pretty pointless light - you get some cyclists just ignoring it to turn left, others cutting the corner off. There are a few solutions - the most obvious but longer term one is to extend the cycle lane to Gunnersbury. I suspect something will be done about the light phasing to allow a left turn. But in the spirit of finding common ground - where cyclists cut the corner by mounting the pavement and at speed, they should get a PCN. I'm not suggesting that we fine cyclists who use the pavement to get to the cycle parking. Or fine cyclists who are nervous / new / with kids avoiding the road, or fail to dismount when crossing to the park and are being safe or considerate, even if they annoy you. If there's a cycle lane they should be using it or the road as that's usually safer for them and pedestrians. |
