| Riding without lights on your bike at night is already illegal, and police can and do fine cyclists with a £50 PCN. I’ve seen this done in an organised way on Shepherds Bush Green, combined with giving out free lights. The parklet was in Barnes, not Chiswick, where they are removing parking spaces on the High Street where footfall is at a five year high despite the closure of Hammersmith Bridge. This is being founded by the Barnes Community Association: “Whilst all high streets need some parking, and we recognise that a number of retailers oppose the loss of parking bays immediately outside their shops, the future is about creating attractive shopping parades that will draw people in and encourage them to dwell and spend money. We know that many businesses and residents support our view. The parklet is a very good example of this. Case studies from across London suggest that parklets increase business profits by up to 30%.” Looks like there’s a good case for having some parklets in Chiswick. |
