| You might have some basis for the narrative you present thirty years ago, but it would have been been a poor prediction of what has actually happened subsequently. I’m not sure how you’ve failed to notice that car use is dropping while cycling is increasing in London. Bikes now outnumber cars on the roads of the City. Along the High Road the fraction of bikes has been climbing and is now one third. Of course there are those who nevertheless claim there are never any cyclists on the cycle lanes and even less in winter! Actually bike usage does drop by 20% but car use drops too as people simply travel less when it’s colder and darker. It’s interesting to note that the same people who claim there are no cyclists are also the ones who claim bikes are somehow an existential threat to everyone else. So I’m afraid your comments are both rather badly out of date and quite irrelevant. |
