| Dozens of trees were removed when the High Road was first widened to accommodate motor vehicles. Up to the present, many more have been removed because they interfered with the roadway or the pavement. Recently, a copse was cleared to give access to construct the walkway under Barnes Bridge. The loss of any single tree is sad, whatever the reasons. But why overlook all the other trees that have been removed, all justified by the need to improve driving or walking rather than cycling? Why should they have been any less valued, or their loss simply ignored? |
