| I'm pleased to see you effectively restating the argument for why a modal shift to cycling, which leads to fewer cars and hence fewer deaths on our roads, should be accompanied by improvements to infrastructure to better protect cyclists. If not, you are quite right to warn that an overall reduction in fatality rates will come at the expense of more cyclists killed. In fact the causality works in reverse as a safer environment leads to more people cycling. Of course such a modal shift also leads to improved air quality, lower emissions and improved health. |
