| Tom Pike explained quote: There were 300 fewer fatalities on our roads last year simply as there were fewer motor vehicles that cause nearly all the deaths in the first place. However, there was an increase in cyclist fatalities down in part to the dramatic increase in cycling. Around 100 cyclists a year had been dying on our roads over the recent years, but last year it spiked up to 141. unquote: So that according to the above... fewer cars/more cyclists/40% more cycling fatalities IOW The greater the number of cyclists there are on the road in relation to the number of cars, the greater will be the number of cycling fatalities. Is this a "necessary sacrifice" you're willing to make then, in pursuit of your greater goal ? And presumably there must be be a tipping point*. Any idea when that will be ? michael adams * quote: the London Borough of Hounslow’s urban road network, covers a total of 432 km of roads, (1) The proposed CS9 is a 5.6 miles (9.01 km) long segregated cycle path, running from Kensington Olympia to Brentford town centre (2) unquote: So thats 9.01km out of 432km ( with LBH roads west of Brentford subsituting for all those of H&F and K&C ) 1 https://www.vinci-concessions.com/en/infrastructure/hounslow-road-network 2 https://www.sustrans.org.uk/our-blog/news/2017/october/sustrans-lays-groundwork-for-ambitious-cycle-superhighway-9 |
