| Gunnersbury is owned by Network Rail and TfL only operate it. This probably makes it a less likely option unless the tower block above it is being redeveloped and the council can make full accessibility a planning gain (as well as a much needed second entrance). It is wrong to say that campaigning is pointless and politics will play an important part in which stations are chosen. Fleur Anderson managed to get a feasibility study for East Putney by making this an issue. Nick Rogers has been a good GLA rep for the area and strong in the field of transport and he has been banging the drum on step free access for Chiswick stations. However, he is stepping down at the election next May. As has been mentioned the chances are the new local representative will be Labour which will make the Mayor more receptive. If the candidate selected can be obliged to make a pledge to promote step free access as a manifesto commitment that would be significant. However, there isn't much evidence of a strong groundswell of support for this measure. I responded to the consultation but only 77 people from the W4 postcode area did which hardly suggests general clamour. |
