| Noted that when you think a single trader shares your view that the scheme is working well you’re happy to take that as expressing the view of traders but when you realise that they don’t share your view you need to hear from others with different opinions. The Council should decide what happens with both Devonshire Road and Turnham Green Terrace and a small rump of transient traders forcing their views on everybody else can be listened to but not dictate the terms. The Council should be very cautious about taking the views of traders who park their cars all day in the street seriously at all. When hospitality businesses are seeking change in licence to financial services businesses the Council should review the scheme that the traders pushed for and ask if that is the outcome that people really want. If the Council decides that car restrictions will benefit the residents and businesses and the long-term future of the street based on plentiful evidence including the experience of the negative effects of the current scheme then they should make the necessary changes. The Council should offer the traders another chance and maybe next time the ones who benefit from car restrictions will speak up especially as the dry cleaner has moved on and the reactionary rump is weakened. And they should ignore Councillors who have the opposite of the Midas touch. |
