| I do think that the current regulations don’t really achieve anything and I am open minded to a more pedestrian friendly situation here on Devonshire Road. We would absolutely need cars to be able to come down the road for access and for loading to be possible for both commercial and non commercial vehicles. I have before seen roads where there is shared use but traffic is calmed, whether that be by using cobbles or other measures. As quite rightly pointed out I am no way an expert on town planning! , but I do know that independent businesses need the option for vehicular access sometimes and so balance needs to be achieved. As I said before hospitality in a road like Devonshire Road is on the whole beneficial to all businesses here as it creates foot fall, but we of course cannot only take their needs in to account it needs to generally meet the needs of all and this includes traders of all kinds as well as their patrons and indeed residents. I am a resident here so I will have concerns that I wouldn’t have as a business owner so I do understand the complexities.l Like I have said Devonshire Road is not heading for demise but of course there could be improvements. Those improvements need to be reasonable, make sense and not detrimental to both small businesses and indeed the wider environment. Is there a balance to be found? I think so! |
