| Sinking a lift into existing platforms isn't the most difficult thing to do. I believe step-free access at Turnham Green is linked to Piccadilly line modernisation which is dependent on new trains replacing the existing 40+ year old stock and signalling upgrades (which may have been done). This would enable all day stopping of Piccadilly line trains at Turnham Green and a better case for step free access as an interchange station. District and Piccadilly line trains are different and the platform height is a compromise so even with a lift to the platform, there won't be level boarding for either line. Previous plans for Piccadilly line modernisation also involved a change in service, with Piccadilly line taking over District line service to Ealing Broadway allowing release of District line trains to provide a higher frequency service on the other branches. I don't know the current status of this. Piccadilly line modernisation is a multi-billion £ project so if step-free access is being considered as part of this, then that is when it will happen and lobbying by individual politicians won't change this. I believe Gunnersbury has now overtaken Turnham Green passenger numbers so would be ahead of Turnham Green in the queue for step free access if this was the only consideration. |
