| Jeremy, you have overlooked that I was citing direct evidence from local retailers. There was no sign of a reduction in footfall, turnover or covers when parking spaces were removed, either on TGT or the Old Market Place. I think Penny’s key point is also being overlooked, and one that counters your original claim that there is a slow decline on Devonshire Rd. In her case it’s not a fall in revenue that’s the issue, but the failure to realise the potential which became apparent during when there was much less traffic during the COVID restrictions. But there is also agreement that drivers simply ignore restrictions if they know they are unenforced. I return to my original suggestion of blocking the road below Prince of Wales Terrace. That would provide clarity to those who do actually need to load items when shopping, or indeed access the garage. It would provide a much more pleasant pedestrian experience, as well as cutting back on the through traffic through the Glebe Estate. In fact the northbound rat run is also an anachronism, funneling traffic which should be on Chiswick Lane through a residential neighborhood. |
