| That's not what Chris Calvi-Freeman, former head of transport at Hounslow Council thinks. Here is his response to the story on Twitter: "Crikey. I remember c15 years ago trying to get this one through. A very busy station & not too technically difficult to achieve. TfL are a law unto themselves - always have been - disdainful to local councils. They wasted huge amounts investigating Osterley too before giving up." I think the case is very strong but it could be that because it lies on the border between boroughs and constituencies there is a bit of confusion about who should be leading the campaign. Over the years, Hounslow and Ealing councillors and MPs for Ealing Central Acton and Brentford and Isleworth from all parties have made encouraging noises but never really got the bit between their teeth. With Ruth Cadbury unlikely to spend any time on this as Chiswick won't be her problem any more, it would be interesting to see if Andy Slaughter will have a go. Ideally, he'd take a bi-partisan approach and work with the local Tory councillors and the GLA rep (likely to be Labour at that point which may be significant). |
