| Adrian, you are rather missing the point. Of course sales in the two premises were affected by other changes, apart from parking. It was the year of COVID. The point is that that when the parking was removed there was no discernible change in turnover for either retailer. It’s not the removal of parking explains all of the changes in retail, but rather that it had no discernible effect. In fact Councillor Biddolph completely misinterpreted one of the sets of figures to claim that it proved that parking was critical when they showed the exact opposite. She similarly used the miscalculated figures from one hospitality outlet on the High Road to try to make the point that the markets were damaging their business when in fact they proved again the exact opposite. But I think you end up agreeing with my point, that the current level of car parking provision in Chiswick is more than adequate for retail. It’s notable that parking on the south side of Turnham Green itself has been removed without much comment. The big change is still to come, the halving of parking with the redevelopment of Sainsburys. |
