| "As the data comes in from around London, other boroughs are sure to follow suit." In the meantime we have an interesting experiment developing with 6 boroughs in West and South West London. On the one hand we have the vehicular free market libertarian Councils of Kensington, Richmond and Twickenham, Ealing and Wandsworth following a policy of free movement for private cars on all streets above all other interests. And on the other hand we have Hounslow and Hammersmith and Fulham pursuing a socialist interventionist policy of exercising their executive authority to manage traffic and prioritise the interests of people not in private cars. With their own takes on how to do that most effectively. Of course the libertarians will discover that they are not immune to the decisions taken by those around them as opening their arms to rat running drivers will inevitably attract more of them to use their residential streets to cut through between London's main road arteries like the A40 and A4. So they will get more of what they want. We'll see how long they stick to their libertarian principles. I think Wandsworth will be the first to crack. |
