| The” absolute fact” is that traffic monitoring data, whether from Inrix or iBus, shows overall traffic and congestion is down on South Parade. Of course if you accessed Fishers Lane from Esmond Road you weren’t adding much to the traffic on South Parade, but that’s a very small proportion of the traffic that used Fishers Lane. Common sense would indeed suggest that most traffic would have diverted along South Parade to access Fishers Lane. Shut Fishers Lane and that traffic no longer takes South Parade. Of course there are particular destinations where restrictions undoubtedly mean trips become longer, but that doesn’t contradict that overall people tend to go out of their way if it makes a journey quicker. |
