| Jeremy, your solution is equivalent to saying that the cure for obesity is the person should let their belt out so they can eat more rather than go on a diet. The only way to reduce pollution from vehicles is reduce the number of polluting vehicles. You will not reduce the number of polluting vehicles by building more roads, will you? Any decrease in congestion will be marginal and temporary as the roads will fill up again, as they always have in London where demand will always be more than supply. By the way, there isn't local population growth in Chiswick. The age profile is older, so fewer kids, not the migration you see in other areas and really not that much new development. That is why the ward boundaries were redrawn to take in parts of Brentford because the Chiswick councillors were representing fewer people than wards elsewhere. |
