| People generally choose routes that are quicker, not more direct. Hence the traffic data from the restrictions in Chiswick consistently shows their effect has been slightly reduced speeds but slightly more direct journeys, as assessed by Satnav data; it’s not fiendishly difficult to determine this if you have records of routes before and after the restrictions to compare. Steer obtained this data from INRIX as part of the LBH traffic assessment. It’s certainly true that reduced speeds will slightly offset reduced traffic counts in terms of the vehicles on the road at any one time, but as the traffic reductions have been proportionately larger, overall there have been fewer vehicles on the roads. |
