| I'm lucky enough not to have any respiratory illness so can't really answer your question directly but, as a contact lens wearer, I do have the ability to make a very crude measure of air quality. If I walk by a busy road with lots of pollution, eventually I start to experience discomfort in my eyes. If it is really bad I have to take my lens out. Up to about five years ago, I'd generally wear glasses if I was visiting Chiswick High Road. This steadily got better, I would guess mainly due to a reduction in the number of buses and an improvement in their emissions and the year before lockdown I could happily walk up and down the High Road without a problem. Over the last year or so, I have noticed the problem with my eyes recurring again. It isn't anywhere as bad as it was a decade ago but it is worse than it was pre-lockdown. It is only a minor annoyance for me but if this experience is mirrored by someone with a lung condition we need to stop and think. |
