| I don't think it's quite that simple. The "unregistered untaxed unclassified two wheeled mechanically propelled uninsured MOTOR vehicles" are legal to use on private land, so not illegal per se. A not entirely dissimilar argument could be used about cars or motorcycles - they are capable of reaching speeds that in public are only allowed on unrestricted autobahns in Germany, so why do we allow cars that are capable of illegal speeds to be sold in the UK? And of course you can use unregistered, untaxed, two or four wheeled uninsured motor vehicles on private land without necessarily breaking any laws. They ( the illegal electric motorbikes) should be taken off the public roads and I'd support active enforcement, but there's not much you can do to stop them being sold with legislation as it currently stands. The difference I suppose is that most cars aren't sold with the expectation that they will be used illegally, whereas the illegal to use on public roads electric motorbikes are highly likely to end up being used illegally. |
