So the cycle lane works have improved bus travel on Chiswick High Road. Bus stop bypasses, a new bus gate and a single lane for buses to use with all traffic has improved bus journey times while having a negligible impact on the journeys of people who choose to use private cars for short local journeys or who use CHR as a bypass for the A4. By any objective measure this is a resounding success. Surely even the long-term detractors of the cycle lane and our local conspiracy theorists and misinformation peddlers have to concede that this has confounded all their expectations. Chiswick should be a model for buses and cycle lanes happily coexisting on main roads all over London. |
