Francis, thank you for putting these numbers together. They are very informative and an important contribution to the debate. However, I have looked in details at the data and I do think there is an error in your calculation. You have summed the net increase in delay for each sector to come up with a total delay for the length of King Street and the High Road. However you are adding delays per mile for distances that aren't necessarily a mile. This doesn't negate the broader conclusion you reach that delays have increased but, using a very rough estimate I would say the total is closer to two rather than three minutes. As you rightly point out, the number is an average and most times of day there will be little or no delay, so the experience of most vehicles on the High Road will journey times increased by more than two minutes. |
