The figures I'm looking at show a net reduction of about 800 buses for that period, so less than 10% but your point is nevertheless a valid one. The question is what would you do? Assuming as you have to that there is a fixed budget the Mayor has chosen to accept some fall in the fleet size in return for cleaner but more expensive buses. He has chosen not to increase fares and given how many people on low income rely on buses as their primary means of transport, this seems to be the right thing to do. |
