There is no cycleway to Chiswick Roundabout. Modelling showed that the C9 extension from Kew Bridge to Brentford would actually speed up buses due to the associated changes in traffic light phases. Thus far C9 along Chiswick High Road has not resulted in any major delays for buses. The government, both the last one and the present one, still have a policy of encouraging cycling because it benefits people's health, provides a low cost form of transport and might help improve air quality. True the newer section of the cycleway through Brentford isn't that heavily used (I've had it to myself on the few occasions I've used it) but habits take time to change and the Chiswick section continues to see increased ridership. As you'll see from my comments elsewhere, I believe buses should be paramount as far more people use them to travel in this part of London than drive or cycle but there has to be a balance. At the moment, what has been done on this section looks like a good use of road space but it is too early to judge the impact. Steve, you may think you are still in your twenties and Bill Haley is top of the hit parade but you really should get your carer to make sure you have your Freedom Pass when you go out of the house. |
