"I’m far too young to get the freebies " Strokes chin reflectively. "my experiences of buses have generally been that they are dirty, noisy, smelly and germ ridden. Much more comfortable to travel by car" The fact that your defined benefit pension enables you to afford a car in retirement is nice for you but most people who use buses don't have that option. I have used buses across Europe and can say categorically that London's is the best of any equivalent large city e.g. compared to Paris, Rome, Berlin, Madrid or Milan. It ranks well in terms of cleanliness and cost and is streets ahead in terms of payment methods, the emissions of the fleet and the technology used to provide passenger information. I tend to agree with you that the concessions for older people on London Transport are over generous, the fact that you and other old men choose to use your cars and avoid the bus suggests they are not working as well as they might do. |
