If you look at the short film apparently made by a bus driver embedded in that article, the biggest problems he has are vans and cars parked in bus lanes or narrow streets. Plus people coming out of side streets blocking the bus lane. In Brentford there are frequently cars and vans parked in the High Street. They leave their hazard lights on so that means there is no disruption, obviously. Of course the construction of cycle infrastructure, replacing of gas pipes, water pipes, electricity infrastructure, installation of new optical cable etc cause quite a bit of disruption (the very worst impact in Chiswick was where the water main failed in Acton Lane) and adding a cycle lane can take away some flexibility from the roads, though Tom Pike's data shows the impact is far less than some suggest. |
