| There are many blocks between Acton Town and Hammersmith. If there weren't, then a train couldn't leave Acton Town before the previous train reached Hammersmith, and you would wind up with 4 minutes (or more) between trains. The problem is that the blocks around Turnham Green are not designed for trains to stop. They are designed for trains to go through at around 40 to 45 mph. At that speed, the train will clear a long signalling block quickly. If you slow down for the station, you will take a lot longer to clear the block at slower speeds. |
