| Adding an additional stop on the Piccadilly line would reduce the number of trains per hour. That would decrease the capacity of the line, not increase it. As Al points out, new signalling means that trains can run closer together, the average speed will increase with improved acceleration and deceleration and the trains themselves will have higher capacity with a through carriage design (like the new District trains). Interestingly Gunnersbury has more passengers than Turnham Green at the peak although Turnham Green has more overall including off-peak and weekends. With the new developments at that end of the High Road and the new Brentford stadium, I wouldn’t be surprised if Gunnersbury overtakes Turnham Green for overall passengers as well. |
