| Has to be said Richard that I'm stunned that you have persisted with this line of argument. You've been an intelligent and valuable participant in this forum until now but at best your arguments are bone-headed and transparently false at worse quite inflammatory and likely to be upsetting to many people. It isn't nice to be labelled no better than a racist. The Arts Ed also discriminates against children who are not musically or dramatically talented. By your logic this puts them on a par with cross burners in the deep south. It is actually totally ridiculous to equate any form of selection in schools in this country with selection by race. You can't change your race but you can change your religion. Your children aren't barred from Gunnersbury but as they or you don't share the ethos of the school it would be in nobody's interest to offer you a place most particularly your childrens. Admitting children who share the school's ethos is the best solution for everyone and it is unreasonable to suggest that Church schools should do otherwise. It would be a bit like forcing an agricultural college to admit people who are not farmers in the interests of diversity. Better schooling, as defined by parents who send their children to Gunnersbury is not simply a matter of academic achievement but also has much to do with the values of the school. You don't share these values and that is your perogative but you have to accept that your value system isn't mandatory and people have different beliefs. Your aggressive attitude to people who think differently to you is a cause for concern. You've always struck me as an essentially decent individual but the subject of education seems to be a topic that has caused you much bitterness to the point that much of what you say is irrational. I've tried to respond to some of the points you made with facts and real evidence but you seem utterly determined to ignore the other side of case and cling to your rather nasty and unpleasant point of view. |
