The claim is being made by increasing numbers of people in N Ireland as well! As mentioned in a previous post, driven by parental pressure there is a growing trend in N Ireland towards non-denominational schools and even kids crossing the schools' sectarian divide. The non-denominational schools in NI are increasingly over subscribed because a) they are good schools and b) they represent an environment desired by parents who don't want their kids brought up in a religiously segregated school. Additionally, there has been a trend in certain areas where more Roman Catholic parents are sending their kids to nominally "Protestant" schools because these particular schools are seen as better than the Roman Catholic schools in the area. From these parents perspective, they see a good education being more important than the religious ethos of the school. |
