| Would someone who chose to send their child to a school that selected on the grounds of race automatically be regarded as a racist ? And do you think that discrimination on religious grounds is less abhorrent than discrimination on racial grounds ? Judging by some of the replies in this thread then the claimed criteria for parents applying to Gunnersbury School is that their children will get a better schooling. In the southern states of the USA the same argument would no doubt be advanced by parents seeking to send their children to all-white schools. Obviously the vast majority of parents want their children to have the best education available, and if the best-performing school has a discriminatory entry policy and they qualify under it, then it is hard to blame them for making use of the system. My objection is to a state school funded by general taxation being allowed to discriminate in this way. |
