| I would guess there are more observant Muslims (and possibly Hindus as well) in the borough of Hounslow than Catholics. Does anyone know if this is true? If it is, why aren't there Muslim or Hindu state schools in Hounslow? Or pagan schools for that matter? (If there are enough pagans to join Poppy Richards) Or humanist schools? Quaker schools etc? I am not a fan of religious schools due to the fact I think kids are socialised in a large part at school and it would be nice if your schoolfriends represented society as whole. However to its credit, Gunnersbury does take in a pretty wide range of kids from different socio-economic backgrounds and families unlike certain other Catholic schools popular with leading politicians. A family member teaches in a Catholic primary in a very poor area very close to the Oratory. They haven't had a kid get into it for years. The boys pretty much all go to Gunnersbury instead. So if any school should be banned from interviewing, it's the Oratory |
