| Although I would accept that some of the comments made about local faith schools on this thread have been very ill-considered perhaps the proponents of this schools should bear in mind the position that many local parents find themselves in. If you are not religious and can't afford to go private your children will in all likelihood be offered places at either Chiswick Community School or Acton High. Neither of which is a particularly attractive prospect. If you look east there are schools like Lady Margerats, Sacred Heart, Cardinal Vaughan and London Oratory. If you look north there is Twyford, look west and there is Gumley, Gunnersbury and the Green School. None of these are an option for us. But because so many local parents send their children to these schools there has been a collective loss of confidence within much of the community for the local schools yet many people are left with no choice. Chiswick is a nice area and it ought to have a good quality local school. Whilst I accept there are some good things about the school it is perhaps understandable that some parents are unhappy about the fact that lots of other people seem to get a better standard of education for their kids elsewhere and they are bound to become resentful. |
