| Colin - I don't dispute this for one minute. I wasn't seeking to knock faith schools just point out that some parents may feel resentful of their success because the choices they are presented with are so poor. The parents that I speak to at Chiswick Community school are keen to be involved and help out but they have an uphill task. One of the main problems is that so many attending the school don't live locally because lots of people in Chiswick don't want to send their kids there. These would be exactly the kind of parents who could make the school stronger with their involvement. Ironically the school despite its name is becoming less a part of the community. One hope for the school is that the new proposals for the education system will allow parents an even greater role in the school encouraging more parents to get involved and raise standards. Until then the option for many parents is to lump it or move out. |
