“I fully accept that increased footfall from the other markets could potentially boost trades and many restaurant and cafe owners don't dispute that.” Francis, the numbers I’ve seen from a couple of businesses are quite clear: the market boosts turnover and covers significantly. What is odd is that one of those businesses believed the opposite, but had miscalculated, overlooking that there were five weeks in some months. So while some businesses might mistakenly see a threat from the current markets, if their views prevailed it would undoubtedly be to the detriment of the High Road as a whole, another case of the tragedy of the commons. |
