| From a quick bit of googling, the Hogarth flyover opened in 1959 which also is the year the Mini was launched. A Mini Mk1 kerbside weight appears to have been 585 kg. The current Mini Cooper Electric weight is listed as 1615-1680kg, so almost 3 times heavier. I believe the road wear of a vehicle is proportional to the axle weight to the 4th power so 3x the weight has way more than 3x the impact. I'm sure there will be lots more examples of this 'autobesity'. Tick, tock, tick, tock, it is inevitable it will be closing... |
